i think it's amazing that the happy birthday contest began and ended with actual birthday portrait parties. at cindy's party, she (portrayed above) and her mom (portrayed below) swapped portraits too. a perfect end to the birthday contest in my opinion! thanks to everyone for making it so much fun!
cindy (portrayed above) was asked if she told all of her birthday guests to sit with their hands clasped for their portraits. nope! it's just a comfortable pose, she supposed. this one (below) is of her brother-in-law, taylor.
the brothers-in-law also got in on the fun. ron (portrayed above) was praised by cindy for the details that he noticed in his portrait of her (below).

the portrait swap between nina and her mom looked like so much fun to nina's dad (portrayed above) that he decided to join in. his drawing of his wife is below.
nina (portrayed above) coaxed her mom (portrayed below) into drawing her for the portrait party. NOW SHE WON'T STOP! i guess we can expect a lot more swaps from the khashcinas soon.
judith painted this picture of sharon (above) without her knowing it. to get even, sharon painted judith (below) while she posed. they've been painting together for years but this is the first time they've painted each other.

juj (portrayed above) has never has never participated in a portrait party before. although she agreed to swap portraits with witness (portrayed below), she regretted it immediately. "i'm completely out of my league!" she worried. "what if it's awful? what if he hates it?" as it turns out, she had so much fun doing it that she might just party with us again.
steve's fifth-graders did a bunch of quick portraits this week. above is a continuous line drawing he did of his student, hunter, and below is the blind contour line portrait of hunter drew of him.
