both susan and darryl did two portraits of each other. darryl's first attempt, above, was drawn with red pencil then soaked in ink. "the result was something like a dying leaf," he wrote, "... lovely in a destroyed kind of way, and almost entirely useless." he tore it up and worked it into a collage.

with that story in mind, susan's portrait of darryl seems especially accurate.
