nadine bozek & ujwala prabhu

Photobucket

nadine (portrayed above) was excited to share this story about her portrait swap with ujwala. "This one is of Ujwala Prabhu and her husband, as they appeared after participating in an Indian Holiday called 'Holi' that celebrates color and ushers in spring. Ujwala says, 'Holi is great fun. It gives us an opportunity to let our hair down and be kids again - running around with water guns or buckets of water and colour.' This double portrait (below) is of them covered in purple paint. As an artist, I can't imagine a better holiday, than one that celebrates color! I am going to write to my congressman right away, to see if we can't get a holiday like that in the United States.

just so's you know, nadine, holi IS celebrated in america. my mom used to take my family to the orange bowl in miami to get sprayed by the rainbow water cannon and play slip-n-slide on the plastic mats that caught the water. we wore white clothes but we brought water balloons and water pistols filled with colored water to the celebration. so, by the end of the day, our clothes were dyed in rainbow colors.

Wonderful that Holi is being played in so many countries around the world. I just loved to play Holi as a kid and this was one time the folks wouldnt get upset when you came back home with all kinds of colours on you and ruined clothes!
