A Moleskine Self-Portrait Party

The first Moleskine Portrait Party starts tomorrow! Artists in the first round draw self-portraits and create sign in sheets for their buddies to endorse. Above is one of my favorites by the founder of the Moly_X_Project, Marty Harris.

i wonder sometimes what all of you talk about, if anything, when you trade portraits with one another. nadine (portrayed above) and lindsay (portrayed below) inspired some special curiosity because, in my imagination, they would be great friends.

i was starting to wonder if heidi (portrayed above) was ever gonna do another portrait swap and, just like that, i received this great one between her and nadine (portrayed below).

the border is a nice touch.

A MoleSkine Portrait Party

Would anyone like to do a special edition Portrait Party Moleskine Exchange? The host, Melissa, suggested a large scale international portrait party using the japanese fold moleskines. Each person starts with a Japanese Fold Moleskine, draws herself on the first page, includes 2 or 3 photos of herself in the pocket, then mails it to the next artist. Each artist then draws the previous artist and a self portrait to go with it and then mails the moleskine again. The details can be found on Melissa's Moly X Portrait 1 blog. I'd love to see the results!

i received a great email about an "artist showdown" sponsored by about face, an affiliate of the columbia museum of art. the event is basically a portrait party competition with cash prizes. the contest is judged by guest artists and museum staff and winners receive cash prizes. the most recent face-off was in february but it seems to be an annual event. so, keep your ears peeled! the photo above represents a smack-down from the 2006 competition between jeannette fourie and patty dallas.
